Biography

The forces of nature are at play with an unstoppable young New Zealand duo called The Heartleys.

Kayla Mahon and Taylor Cairns are a force to be reckoned with. Winners of the 2008 New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards, The Heartleys grew up together in small town Gore, in the Southland of NZ, and share a remarkable friendship and a common link built on a solid foundation of pure musical talent.

The deep south of NZ fostered each a connection with music and family, for Kayla, wanting to be "just like Grandad", who sang traditional country music, so Kayla followed in his footsteps and started performing at the local Gore Country music Club at four years old.

It was inevitable that Taylor would be musical; her father Peter is a previous NZ Gold Guitar Winner. With opportunities to perform and sing country music, Taylor grew with experience and went from strength to strength to develop her music.

The Heartleys musical influences are united by respect for the traditional country song and a love of new country; Australian and American style. It's the Nashville sound that resonates loudly, songs with undeniable universal resonance, drawn from personal experience.

You would expect the girls to challenge their vocal ability and come together with their harmonies. What emerges is a maturity and complexity that fuses the sound, it's a 'goose-bump' moment;

The Heartleys combined musicality is a sheer joy to experience.

An experience soon to be shared beyond the South of New Zealand. The self titled debut country album was produced by Australian country music producer Roger Corbett. Debutants to songwriting, the girls have been flexing the co-writing muscle, working on developing a core The Heartleys sound, one that will share the experience and tell The Heartleys story so far... and we look forward to the beyond.
